Walter Smith went into eternal rest on the morning of April 17th, 2026. He was known to enjoy woodworking, farming, and animals and built the house he shared with his loving wife of 71 years. He is proceeded in death by his siblings and his son, Walter (Walt) Smith Jr., and his two grandchildren D. W. Phillips, and Kennedy Grace Couch. He is survived by many relatives. His wife Janice Smith. His children, Rebecca K. Rivas and her spouse David Rivas, Rochell Couch, Lauren Seay, Jonathan Smith and his wife Patricia Smith, and Matthew Smith and his wife Julie Smith. His grandchildren, Melissa Phillips, Jeremy Seay, Christopher Rivas, Steven Rivas, Trey Couch, Jennifer Rivas, Matthew Smith Jr., Tyler Smith, Jared Smith, and Logan Smith. His 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A celebration of life will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Town East Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Salem Sayers Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
