Pop, as he was known in his later years, enjoyed a long and special life. Born and raised in San Antonio, he graduated from Edison High School, attended Texas A & M University, until the outbreak of World War II. Pop joined the Merchant Marines as a ships engineer, where he served on various vessels sailing primarily from New York to Europe. During this time, Pop met and married a Yankee Girl, named Gerry. He loved her for 62 plus years, until her passing in 2007. After the war they moved back to Texas, where they lived in San Antonio until moving to Lake LBJ in a home built by him and by his brother and various friends, for them on the water. After declining health forced them from the lake, they moved to Floresville. Pop was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; sister, Olga Mae Boring; brother, D.B. Wallis Jr., and as he liked to say, most of his friends. He is survived by his son, Rick and wife Beverly; granddaughters, Kelly Murray and husband James, Taylor Wallis and fiancé Sammy; sister-in-law, Martha Wallis; also numerous nieces and nephews. Pop''s family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and give special thanks to Pop''s caregiver, Angel. Visitation will be held at Heritage Oaks Mortuary on Tuesday, March 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 16th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Pop''s name can be made to a charity of one''s choice.
