Milton Ray
Blackburn
Feb 1, 1950 — Oct 26, 2024
Milton Ray "Blackie" Blackburn
February 1, 1950 – October 26, 2024
Milton Ray "Blackie" Blackburn, 74, of Elmendorf, Texas, passed away suddenly on October 26, 2024, on his home property that he loved, in the presence of his loving wife and children.
Milton was born on February 1, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Nolan Blackburn and Irene Haby Blackburn.
Milton graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1968. He joined the US Air Force in 1969 and served as a medic and reservist for several years until honorably discharged.
Milton married Jeanette Dornak in San Antonio on May 17, 1975. Their loving marriage lasted just shy of 50 years, bringing into the world a son and daughter and six grandchildren.
Milton worked as a Conductor for the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad for over 35 years but his true passion was ranching on his homestead in Elmendorf, Texas. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and caring for his beloved cattle and family dogs. A favorite pastime of his was hunting for arrowheads. He loved reading about Texas history, especially Native American history. He was most passionate about making his homestead a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place for his family and spent most of his retirement years doing just that, riding around his property on his UTV and farm equipment, checking on and feeding cattle, caring for newborn calves, and performing maintenance on the property. Milton and Jeanette were blessed to spend their retirement years doing these things together at their home.
Milton was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Floresville. Everyone who was blessed to know Milton knew him as one of the most generous, cheerful people they had ever met. His family always knew they were safe and cared for, and his friends knew they had someone to help them with anything, anytime, day or night.
Remaining to cherish Milton's memory are his wife, Jeanette Blackburn; children, Crystal Gale Kincaid (Kevin) and Cody John Blackburn (Sandra); grandchildren, Colton Perry Ross, Kailyn Faith Kincaid, Kyle Devon Kincaid, Kole Dalton Kincaid, Cody Ray Blackburn, and Collin Jeffry Blackburn; brother, Lester Lee Blackburn (Liz); sister Joanetta Doan; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceding in death are his parents, Nolan and Irene Blackburn, stepfather Wilton Blackburn; brother Earl Blackburn; and infant sister Ruth Blackburn.
A Visitation will be held Friday, November 1, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at First Lutheran Church of Floresville, 1406 6th St, Floresville Texas, followed by a funeral service at the church at 10:30 am, then burial service at Floresville City Cemetery. A light meal will follow at the church.
Pallbearers will be Lee Vasbinder, Dean Vasbinder, Dustin Masters, Shalen Lewis, Sean Lewis, Shane Lewis, Clint Neal, and Shane Neal.
