It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Larry Mack Andrews announces his passing at his home in Garden Ridge, TX, on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the age of 67 years. Larry will be missed greatly and remembered fondly by his loving wife, Rosemary, and his daughters, Carrie (Michael) and Haley (Joseph). "Ompie" will be so very missed by his four grandchildren, Kathleen, Gabriel, Ella and Jillian.
Larry will be warmly remembered by his sister, Ladonna Smithey, and by his brothers, Garland Lentz, Donald (Martha) Lentz, Roger (Sonya) Lentz and Kenneth (Jil) Freund, his sister-in-law Elizabeth (William) Gray, his brother-in-law Charles Jenke, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, George Andrews, Sue Andrews Lentz, and Walter Lentz, his sister Georgene Andrews, and his granddaughter Guiliana Murguia.
Larry did life right. He shared 46 happy years with his wife, delighted in the early musical stylings of his niece Jenifer Stine, took great pride in teaching his daughters how to properly mow and edge a lawn, fancied himself an angler with Helotes Bass Club, rode his Harley Fat Boy from time to time, had a standing weekly golf date with friends, attended nearly every activity his grandchildren were involved in, enjoyed a great breakfast taco, and reveled in Lee Childs novels. Hundreds of Mark Twain Middle School graduates remember him as Coach Andrews, a title he enjoyed far after retirement. Coach probably saved hundreds of dollars in meals with all of the former athletes who recognized him at a local restaurant and paid his bill. He was also very proud of his post-coaching career as a member of the finest SAISD attendance auditor team. Larry never met a long country road he didn't like, nor a Bruce Springsteen song that didn't make him close his eyes and hum along nostalgically. He was a mentor to most everyone who knew him, and he gave the best bear hugs to all he loved. An Army veteran and student of life, Larry always had an entertaining story to share, many with a lesson to teach. We are forever grateful to have been part of his world.
Larry's family would like to extend their appreciation to the many doctors at the START Center for Cancer Care, the wonderful nurses and physicians at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, his longtime physician Dr Jesus Aguilar, and the very skilled hands of Dr Christopher Bogaev and his caring staff.
Larry did not want a funeral service. In accordance with his preferences, a celebration of Larry's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation to either the Animal Defense League or Brighton Center, both of San Antonio, TX.
