He received a Degree of Associate in Applied Science from St. Phillips College.

Joe was a dedicated employee of 33 years at United Way. He was a loving , caring person, respected and admired by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe E. Pena , Mary Louise Pena, and his brother Manuel Garza, Jr.

Joe is survived by Lina Pena, mother of his children, his daughter Lina Louise Salinas (Mike), sons Joe L. Pena Jr. (Priscilla) and Erik Jason Pena, nine grandchildren , 2 great-grand children, sisters, Linda Medina, Angie P. Hannah, Rosalita Espinoza (Alex), Dahlia Reyna (Arturo) , numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Monday, January 19, 2015 , 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm, prayer service at 7:00 pm. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Viewing 8:00a.m.-11:30a.m. Chapel Service at 12:00 noon, departing for Fort Sam Houston at 1:00p.m.for graveside service scheduled for 1:45 pm.
