Joann Elizabeth
Hosek
Jul 28, 1943 — Apr 20, 2024
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of JoAnn, our beloved mother. She went into eternal rest on Saturday April, 20, 2024 at the age of 80. JoAnn was born on July 28, 1943 to Willie and Jane Gaydos on the Kubacek family farm in Dobrowolski, Texas. She lived on the family farm until her father returned from his service in World War II.
JoAnn grew up helping her father with farm work, sometimes staying home from school to pick vegetables. Along with her brother and sisters, she was raised in a tight-knit Czech family surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins that were as close to her as siblings.
JoAnn graduated from Charlotte High School and moved to San Antonio to attend Durham Business College. It was during this time she met Richard, the love of her life, on a blind date. They married on July 31, 1965 in Jourdanton, Texas. The celebration was an all day affair with Mass at 9:30am followed by dinner, supper, and then a dance. They built their family home in China Grove, Texas where they raised their five children. Their home was a caring, warm and welcoming hub for family and their children's friends. They were married for 57 years before Richard's passing.
JoAnn was an expert seamstress. She sewed many bridesmaids' dresses, two of her sisters' wedding dresses, clothes for her children, curtains, and tailored clothes for family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved history. JoAnn was a Dallas Cowboys fanatic. She was partial to quarterbacks, especially Roger Staubach. She also enjoyed watching the UT Longhorns and UTSA Roadrunners football games along with the San Antonio Spurs.
JoAnn's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would often travel to Cedar Park and Schertz to take of care them. She also attended many of their extracurricular activities including school plays, volleyball, softball, and lacrosse games. She always made sure to make her grandchildren's favorite foods for any family event.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Jane Gaydos, husband Richard Hosek, sister-in-law Nancy Gaydos, brothers-in-law: Robert Hosek, Donald Copley, and Paul Hosek; God-daughter Stephanie Copley and nephew James Hosek.
JoAnn is survived by her five children: Richard Hosek Jr., Angelene Nordin (Todd), Joseph Hosek, Sandra Soto (Joe), and Robert P. Hosek; six grandchildren: Ian, Evan, Bianca, Baylee, Declan, and Brayden; siblings: Billy Gaydos, Frances Copley, Dolly Breithaupt (Fritz), Doris Tschirhart (Greg): also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
