Obituary

Jerry Lee Wiatrek was born in Falls City, TX on November 8, 1951 and died in San Antonio on March 19, 2020. He was born at home, the third of eight children. He attended Falls City High School and graduated in 1970. While he was in school, Jerry worked at Lyssy's Dairy as well as on the family farm. After high school, he joined the Air Force reserves working as a mechanic, serving his country for six years. After his discharge, Jerry worked with his dad building houses. This is where he learned the carpentry and woodworking skills that he was known for. Jerry later took a job with DEA Specialties where he worked until his retirement in 2017. During his time with DEA, Jerry worked on several well-known locations throughout the San Antonio and Austin area. He made many contacts while working at DEA and made friends everywhere he went. After retirement, Jerry continued to stay busy doing yardwork and handiwork for his friends and family.

Jerry met the love of his life, Donna, at Country Down under. He asked her to dance, and that was start of the happiest days of their lives. They were married in 1994 and built a beautiful life together. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with the guys, but otherwise could always be found by Donna's side. Together, they enjoyed RV camping, traveling with friends, and many fun times at the coast with their family and best friends Krissie and Gregg Radley.

Jerry and Donna served on the San Antonio Livestock Exposition since 2012 and he was named Volunteer of the Year while serving on the Exhibit Committee. He was a proud member of the Ambassador Committee for the past eight years. He made many friends and enjoyed being a part of the rodeo and serving his community.

Jerry loved the outdoors and was rarely inside. He enjoyed barbequing and shooting the breeze with a cold can of beer in his hand. He was very proud of his daughter Crystal and her husband Chase and his handsome grandsons Corbin and Carter and loved them with all of his heart. He was always available to help the neighborhood ladies and his friends and family with anything they needed. He was known for his generosity, work ethic, and kind heart. He was beloved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Loraine and Leonard Wiatrek. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 28 years, his daughter Crystal (Chase) Atkins, grandsons Corbin and Carter Atkins, his brothers, Leonard Wiatrek (Kelly), Kenneth Wiatrek (JoAnn), Roger Wiatrek; sisters, Janie Falcon (James), Shirley Shelton (Bob), Wanda Hellum (David), Debbie Gorzell (Jeff); also numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Buddy. A memorial service and celebration of his life is pending and will be scheduled when feasible, given community health concerns.
