Obituary

Edward "Buck" Aloysius Buckley Jr. was born July 7, 1932, and entered into eternal life surrounded by family and friends on February 1, 2020. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Velma Inez Harris Buckley, his brother, Patrick Buckley; his son-in-law, Timothy Murphy Sr.; his brother-in-law, Jacob C Biry and nieces, Michelle Matcek and Debbie Matcek. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Marie Batot Buckley; brother Charles Dee Buckley; 8 children: Laurette Buckley Calderon, Lyndelle Ballard (Gary), Mark Buckley (Linda Lumpkin), Wade Buckley (Diane), Kathleen Achilles (Gary), Maureen Buckley Murphy, Adrienne Forks (Joseph), Rosanne Morris (Patrick). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lydia Buckley, Patricia Biry; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stanley and Peggy Matcek; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and nephews. He will be missed by countless friends throughout San Antonio and Texas.

Buck was born and raised in San Antonio and graduated from St. Gerard High School in 1951. He gave up a basketball scholarship to the University of Houston to marry his childhood sweetheart, Yvonne. They celebrated their 68 th wedding anniversary on January 30, two days before he passed.

Buck was a hard worker all of his life and provided for his large family. He first worked for the San Antonio Light as a copy boy and was then hired at United Gas Pipeline where he earned college credits from Texas A&M. When United Gas moved out of the area, he found employment with Central Distributing Company and worked in sales. Buck never met a stranger, which was a great asset in the sales career he retired from after 20 years.

Outside of work, Buck spent many happy times working with his children and grandchildren at the beloved family ranch in Hondo and pursuing different hobbies. He was a champion bowler and member of several leagues in his younger years. In his later years, Buck enjoyed playing bingo at VFW Post 837, buying scratch offs, and playing the lotto. He loved traveling to Big Bend and around rugged West Texas; no trip was complete without stopping at Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center in Langtry. He was always a football fan and could quote college football statistics with the best of them, even at 87. Buck always had a joke to tell and leaves behind him a legacy of love and humor. He hated cold food, hot beer, and wet toilet paper.
