Charles H. "Pete" Klaus, born July 12, 1934, went to be with our Lord March 11, 2017 at the age of 82. He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert Klaus and Hilma Treybig, sister Doris Koether, and granddaughter Destiny Nichols. Pete is survived by his wife of 58 years Lucille, daughters Debbie Webb and husband Winford, Jeanie Nichols and husband Randy, Kathy Recker and husband Brett; grandchildren Robert Luce and wife Claudia, Christine Teach and husband David, Amanda Luce and Sydney Recker, brother Buddy Klaus and wife Marina, and faithful companion Bear.
Pete served in the US Army traveling to Germany and England among other places. He met his wife Lucille on a blind date while stationed at Fort Bragg. After leaving the Army he went to work at Kelly Air Force Base as a faithful and dedicated aircraft mechanic, retiring in July 1989 after 37 years.
He enjoyed bowling and introduced the entire family to the sport where lifelong friends were made. Pete was a founding member of the Slo-Pokes bowling league and a proud member of the San Antonio Bowling Association Board of Directors for a period of time. He also enjoyed fixing things; anything from cars to lawn mowers, there was nothing he could not fix. In his younger days he enjoyed working on race cars and drag racing.
The family would like to thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers. Visitation will be held at Heritage Oaks Mortuary on Thursday, March 16 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at Heritage Oaks Mortuary Friday, March 17 at 1:00 pm followed by interment at Salem Sayers Cemetery.
