Charlene Ruth
Forster
Aug 29, 1935 — Jul 22, 2025
San Antonio
Charlene Ruth Forster, affectionately known as "Nana," passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, in her hometown of San Antonio, at the age of 89. Born on August 29, 1935, to Minnie and Elkhart Moehrig, Charlene embodied the best of her German heritage—stubborn, stoic, loving, and deeply faithful.
Charlene grew up in San Antonio, where she found joy in music as a member of Harlandale high school band. She later worked as a bookkeeper and cherished a long, loving marriage with her late husband, Richard Forster. Together, they raised four children: Douglas (deceased), Sharon Banta (deceased), Denise Gurnee, and Michael Forster. Nana's legacy extends to eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, whom she loved and bragged about daily.
Charlene's hands were rarely still—she delighted in arts and crafts, painting, sewing, and lively games of bingo. She took particular joy in the classic car clubs she and Richard joined. As a choir member at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, her faith enriched both her life and her community.
A memorial service will be held on August 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3118 S. New Braunfels Ave., San Antonio, TX, officiated by Pastor McCants.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to Heritage Creek Assisted Living Facility and staff and to Heart of Texas Hospice for their loving care and support.
